Are you experienced in legal finance or financial compliance or currently a legal cashier with an interest in risk and compliance?

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Legal Cashier to join our expanding legal practice based in Cwmbran, South Wales – easily accessible from both Cardiff and Bristol with free on-site parking.

We are a firm of solicitors offering our customers a range of products and services with a core focus on conveyancing and property transactions. 

The successful candidate will: provide the firm’s COFA support and work closely with the senior team to approve electronic payments;  maintain the firm’s rules and breach register;  perform internal audits of case matter files to ensure compliance with  Solicitors Accounts Rules (SAR);  review client account residual balances and maintain client ledgers;  support annual SAR audit;  review financial transactions including incoming client funds;  process and reconcile professional disbursements and undertake day to day banking duties.

You should have a minimum of 1 years’ experience in a legal finance role and be able to demonstrate knowledge and application of the Solicitors Accounts Rules (SAR) and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) regulations.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Compliance Officer for Finance and Administration (COFA)
  • Maintaining client ledgers
  • Reviewing and allocating incoming client funds
  • Issuing cheques
  • Ensuring client account is never allowed to overdraw
  • Processing and reconciling professional disbursements
  • Making payments and transfers via online banking facility
  • Enter postings onto the accounts system on a daily basis
  • Inputting client payments and obtaining appropriate authorisation in advance of deadlines
  • Reviewing bills and entering them onto the accounts system
  • Dealing with Fee Earner queries
  • Report and monitor breaches of the SAR
  • Ensure tasks undertaken are processed in accordance with SRA Accounts Rules and internal processes and procedures
  • Undertaking daily banking and other cashier related duties as required by Operations Manager/Director

What you’ll need:

Essential –

  • Professional, confident communication skills
  • Understanding of the Solicitors Accounts Rules, VAT and AML
  • A minimum of one  years’ experience in a legal finance role
  • Exposure to dealing with, or the approval process for, online payments
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Experienced user of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and Powerpoint
  • Team player but able to  work autonomously
  • Excellent time management, organisational and administrative skills

Desirable –

  • Knowledge of ISO
  • Relevant professional qualifications (ILFM, Bookkeeping etc)
  • Experience of a practice management system (e.g Leap, Xero)
